Is a Bachelor’s Degree Worth It in Today’s IT World?

Last week, I submitted my graduation thesis after nine months of hard work. Can you say “finally?!” It feels like I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s blindingly bright. However, that got me thinking: in today’s IT world, does a bachelor’s degree truly matter when it comes to landing a job or thriving as a freelancer?

When I signed up for university four years ago, I had this sweet illusion that “they” would teach me how to code and drive me towards my grand career goal. But who is “they”? Well, I quickly learned that no one will throw knowledge at you without your curiosity and eagerness to learn. No one helps unless you ask for it. It was a crash course in personal responsibility!

As graduation draws near, I realize that obtaining this degree won’t magically transform me into a superb developer or guarantee me a job. The answer to whether you need a bachelor’s degree is both yes and no. Yes, you can succeed without it, but no, you can’t achieve anything without exceptional effort from yourself. You really must love what you do, and that passion can lead you to the career you dream of.
